How Cards Are Ranked
Cards are ranked on five attributes on a scale of 0 to 20. The five rankings are then combined for a total ranking, for a maximum score of 100. The five attributes are:
- Power measures the effectiveness and use of the card. The higher the number, the more effective the card is in normal play. A card can get high ranks here even if it is a Rage 0 combat card if it does its job exceptionally well.
- Usability measures how many tribe cards can utilize this card on the first draw (ie, without having to attach another card first). As there are 19 tribe cards as of Equinox, every card gets a bonus point. Usability is mostly based on requirements, and is strictly a count, not an opinion.
- Limitations measure whether the card is properly limited. A high ranking indicates a properly balanced card, while a low ranking can indicate either a powerful card with very few limitations or a weak card with too many limitations.
- Decks is an odd measurement. Basically, I try to come up with four unique deck ideas using the card as a useful member of the deck. They can be simply the archetypes (such as Combat Monster), or involved deck ideas. Each deck idea is worth five points. A deck gets the full five points if the card compliments the deck nicely. Points off for deck ideas that are weak or that are just as effective without the card.
- Flavor measures how delicious the card tastes. No, it really measures the aesthetic value of the card. Five points for artwork (style and appropriateness), five points for fitting card name, five points for the quote, and five points on how well it fits into the game. If the card has no quote, it gets the five points if a quote would not fit on the card. No points if there is white space a quote could fill.
